Animated video is available only in spanish

Carla is a young Venezuelan woman that arrived alone in Brazil as a consequence of forced migration and faced many difficult situations in her path, which are pictured in an animated video produced by the United Nations Population Fund. The fictional character represents one of thousand women that suffer different types of violence in the process of migration.

The first video, launched in 2018, when she arrived in Brazil, pictures the conditions of vulnerability the character lived and the many rights violation she suffered. But Carla ended up being assisted by the United Nations Population Fund and the Operação Acolhida, to receive support and get information.

This time, in the new video, launched during the week celebration of the International Youth Day, Carla makes a new appearance to show how she did get the guidance and support that allowed her to be an empowered woman in the themes related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence and human rights in Brazil.

Carla is a character inspired by true stories, of women that arrived in Brazil after forced migration and who, for many reasons, still face difficulties to access basic services.

Today, she represents change.

Carla is now a young woman that had the assistance and support to her needs and got access to information that gave her autonomy inside her new path in Brazil. She transforms herself in a spokesperson of important and relevant information that serves as a guide to other women that also arrives in Brazil, searching for a new life, especially women migrating alone, and pregnant women who aren’t familiar with the process of prenatal care in Brazil.

The United Nations Population Fund in Roraima has developed tools to assist the process of integration of migrant and refugee women in Brazil, and the image of Carla will be visible in the spaces of Operação Acolhida and Friendly Spaces of UNFPA. The video is also available online to all interested.
